The AAMGA's Fall Insurance and Legislative Roundtable Meeting convened a panel forum of a White House and Capitol Hill Lobbiest, representative of the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers; a state legislator; a state insurance department and legislative lobbiest; and a representative from the pre-eminent insurance rating agency, AM Best. The panel reviewed a wide range of topics and took questions on issues including:
- The priorities the new president and his administration will address
- The future of federal insurance regulation, the "Optional" Federal Charter, and appointment of a federal insurance regulator
- The future of state based federal regulation of insurance
- The future of the wholesale insurance market
- Changes rating agencies are making in their protocols and methodologies following the financial services and banking industry issues
- Legal and legislative surplus lines issues in the states - including Florida
- The future of the Nonadmitted Insurance and Reinsurance Reform Act
- The success of grassroots campaign initiatives
- How will the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, the National Council of State Legislatures and the National Council of Insurance Legislators respond to the new dynamics on the state and federal levels
